“In total, the public sector handed out contracts with a combined maximum lifetime value of £451m to the big four firms last year.
PwC was the next largest recipient winning contracts worth up to £145m, followed by EY (£41m) and Deloitte (£32m).
These statistics were compiled and analysed from public records by Tussell, an analytics company that provides databases on government contracts.
Its analysis showed the bulk of KPMG’s contract came from the Cabinet Office, the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Surrey and the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The government department that awarded the most contracts by value was the MoD, worth nearly £92m, most of which was awarded to KPMG. The Department for International Development came in second, awarding under £33m split between EY and PwC.
PwC’s biggest benefactor was Lancashire City Council, which awarded the firm contracts worth up to £40m over their lifetime. With the exception of Surrey PCC, this made Lancashire City Council the local government body that awarded the most contracts to big four firms.”
