Tender volume hit a record high in March
In March there were 2,341 tenders published. This is the highest volume of tenders since the start of our coverage in March 2014. The volume of tenders was 27% higher than the same month last year.
Award volume hit the second highest point on record
In March award volume reached the second highest total since March 2014, second only to March 2016. The volume of awards was down 14% over the same month last year.
The number of awards to EU suppliers hits a record high before Brexit talks
The number of awards to suppliers based in the EU hit a record high in March 2017 at 128, accounting for £273M of award value.
Award value to foreign suppliers up 270%
Over the last 12 months the average award value issued to suppliers based in foreign countries has increased by 270% from £136M to £513M (as distinct from foreign buyers providing services through UK subsidiaries).
The United States took 31% of award value to foreign countries
Companies in the United States received 383 awards with a total value of £2.4Bn, accounting for 31% of award value issued to foreign suppliers.
Defence accounts for 7 of the top 10 foreign contracts
The MoD issued 7 of the top 10 contracts accounting for £4.6Bn.
The MoD is by far the biggest purchaser from foreign suppliers
The MoD issued 232 awards with a total value of £4.4Bn, accounting for 56% of award value issued to foreign suppliers.
5 of the top 10 suppliers are in the Defence sector
The next biggest sectors were Oil and Gas, Finance and Construction.
£155M of foreign contracts due to expire
The top 10 contracts due to expire in the next 12 months naming foreign suppliers are worth a total of £155M.
